course will help prepare an instructor to teach a foundation course in Hatha
Yoga, Learn the Biomechanics of Yoga Practice and how to utilize Yoga for
clinical rehab & special populations, as well as exercise modifications &
modalities.

Day of Teacher Training: $500 per person

Your Instructor:
Wendy O’Lenic: She has been teaching fitness and Yoga for over 25 years. She
holds a B.A. degree and continues to pursue higher education in her yoga
practice. She is trained in Ashtanga, Power, Yoga Therapy and Hatha styles of
yoga, a very introspective style that incorporates Vinyasa flow and postural
analysis. She has been fortunate to be able to study with great yoga masters in
the Ashtanga, Iyengar, Sivananda Anusara and other styles and schools and brings
this variety of experience and style to this program. Wendy has been training
Special needs students of all ages suffering from different types of pain,
recovering from injury and/or surgery which inspired her to begin teaching yoga
teachers over 10 years ago.
Course Length: Minimum of 25 hours (This does not include the personal
practice time before the review)
Techniques: The many asanas of yoga,
pranayama and meditation
Teaching Methodology: Principles of demonstration, observation, assisting
/ correcting, instruction, teaching styles, qualities of a teacher, and the
students’ process of learning.
Anatomy and Physiology: Includes both physical anatomy and
physiology (bodily systems, organs, etc.) and astral / energy / subtle anatomy
and physiology (chakras, nadis, etc.)
Philosophy, Ethics and Lifestyle: Covers areas such as
the study of yoga scriptures (Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, etc.), ethics for yoga
teachers, 'living the life of the yogi', etc.
Practicum: Includes student teaching as well as observing
and assisting in classes taught by others. Hours may be a combination of
supervised and unsupervised.
Yoga Therapy: Students will learn how to utilize yoga
techniques to help with rehabilitation from surgery, injury, arthritis,
prenatal, etc.
Prerequisites: Minimum six months of yoga experience with
a certified yoga teacher as well as a regular personal yoga practice.
Course Description and Tentative Schedule:
Course Outline:
Introduction to yoga. Basic introduction to the Ashtanga
(eight limbed) system of yoga. This should provide a broad understanding of how
asana (postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises) fit into the larger
landscape of yogic knowledge and understanding.
Asana: Through demonstration, practice and adjustment,
come to understand the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual benefits of
some of the basic asana.
Pranayama: Practicing some of the basic pranayama (the
complete breath, alternate nostril breathing, the square breath, bellows
breathing, etc.) used in yoga classes today, we will learn about breath control
(length, retention and rhythm) and its effects on our overall wellness.
Relaxation: Begin to understand the relaxation response
through a variety of techniques (progressive relaxation, guided imagery,
rhythmic breathing and meditation).
Meditation: Explore this as a goal of Hatha yoga. A
variety of techniques will be used.
Rehabilitation: Using props and modifications, students
will learn how to assist in the healing process of someone with injured knees,
spine, hips, shoulders, wrists and neck.
Students will develop a personal practice for the duration
of the course.
Intention and goal setting will be discussed.

Students will be expected to practice on their own time what they have learned
in class. It is suggested by the instructor that they practice 1-2 hours per day
in order to digest the information they are learning.
